Initiated in 2011 and ongoing, the Anti-Prophet project is based around a number of prepared improvised live music euphemistically known as "the Audiences".
Each is a prepared series of analog synth patches played and recorded live in accordance with a set theme or structure. That piece, after recording, sees its respective modular synth patches destroyed and a mastered recording of that Audience is created.
That recording of the Audience then serves as a blueprint from which subsequent interpretations and variations of the Audience can be created at will.
Thus, each Audience is created as a single, non-permanent, series of sounds, themes and melodies whose purpose, through subsequent Variations and Divergences, is repetition of a theme and the creation of the prospect and principle of an infinite number of alternate versions.
All are connected as Variations to become children of the Audience. Divergences as grandchildren of the Audience and bastard spawn of a Variation. And into the eternal internal.
Dogma exists as follows and each Audience respects it without exception.
No overdubbing; No midi; All live; No laptop or computer use other than as a "tape recorder" and mastering device.
As blueprints, each Audience stands as a musical piece in its own right.
However, more important is that it exists primarily to provide a reference for subsequent interpretation in being raw source materials with which to fashion independent and distinct works albeit with known influential provenance and measured conceptual evolution.
Each interpretation of an Audience is created as a Variation. The base elemental document of the Audience, is conversely unconstrained within the concept of the Variation and thus free of Audience dogma other that the Variation must take as its base the constrained Audience.
Each Variation can be heavily worked, over-dubbed and, in theory at least, constitute a more produced, version of an Audience. Or part of or at least have the potential to.
